FOREIGN TRADE ENDS IN BLACK

The foreign trade of Azerbaijan ended with balance $13.8m in black in January to March of 2004, the State Statistic Committee (SSC) announced.

Foreign trade comprised $1.375bn in this period. Azerbaijan carried out trade operations with 99 world countries. Over the first three months of 2004Export comprised $694.45m, or 2.9% up 2003, and import - $680.68m, or 48.43% up.

Russia led the list of countries importing goods to Azerbaijan 15.84%. It is followed by Kazakhstan (12.61%), UK (9.67%), Turkey (7.54%), Germany (5.77%), Ukraine (4.86%), China (4.74%), the United States (4.61%), Japan (3.49%), France (3.45%). Italy was on the top of the list of countries importing from Azerbaijan 54.56%. Then follows Israel (9.42%), Russia (5.63%), Turkey (4.41%), Iran (4.25%), Georgia (3.78%), Croatia (3.52%), France (2.39%), Tajikistan (1.62%), Latvia (1.08%).

In January to March of 2004 82.46% of Azerbaijani export fell on crude oil and oil products

In June 2006, the Open Society Institute spun off its Revenue Watch program to create an independent Revenue Watch Institute (RWI), a sister organization to coordinate and lead the Soros Foundation Network’s (SFN) work on transparency and accountability in resource-rich countries.

IMF: Azerbaijan's Poverty Reduction Progress
The Government of Azerbaijan submitted its Progress Report on Poverty Reduction Strategy to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in October 2004. IMF Joint Staff has released its assessment of the progress report prepared by the government.
