DRILLING PROGRAM ON SOUTHWEST GOBUSTAN CONFIRMED

The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) confirmed the drilling program for 2004 of the Gobustan Operating Company, which is involved in development of Southwest Gobustan contract area. The company plans to spud a total of 10 wells, including 5 exploration wells.

The wells will be included in the fund of exploitation wells if they give high debits. It is also planned to drill well oriented for gas. More eight wells will be rehabilitated this year.

At present Gobustan Operating Company carries out interpretation of data obtained during the 2D and 3D seismic survey held in the coastal block by the Caspian Oil Geophysical Exploration trust, a structure of SOCAR.

OSI's Revenue Watch Program Becomes Independent Institute

In June 2006, the Open Society Institute spun off its Revenue Watch program to create an independent Revenue Watch Institute (RWI), a sister organization to coordinate and lead the Soros Foundation Network’s (SFN) work on transparency and accountability in resource-rich countries.

IMF: Azerbaijan's Poverty Reduction Progress
The Government of Azerbaijan submitted its Progress Report on Poverty Reduction Strategy to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in October 2004. IMF Joint Staff has released its assessment of the progress report prepared by the government.
