TRANSIT FEES OF OIL, OIL PRODUCTS TRANSPORTATION VIA BATUMI DROPS BY $4 PER TON

Baku, IAA "Trend" April 7

Transit fees for transportation of oil and oil products via the Baku-Batumi pipeline have been cut by $4 per ton sonce April 1, 2004, Deputy Transport Minister Musa Panahov told Trend.

According to Panahov, Georgia and Azerbaijan reduced the tariffs along the route, in the terminal and water transportation by the port," Panahov said. Deputy Transport Minister noted the Azerbaijani side cut the tariffs in its section by $2 per ton.

He also noted the volume of cargo transportation remained in its previous volume in the first quarter. "Rise in cargo deliveries from Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan rose due to the normalization of situation in Batumi. In compliance with the April indices, cargo transportation is expected to grow this year as compared to 2003," Panahov underscored.

IMF: Azerbaijan's Poverty Reduction Progress
