KAZAKH CONGLOMERATE ANNOUNCES PRODUCTION FIGURES FOR FIRST QUARTER OF 2004

The Eurasian Industrial Association has made public the production figures of its companies in the first quarter of 2004.

"The company Kazakhstan's Aluminium produced 359,000 tonnes of aluminium oxide in January-March 2004, against 348,000 t in the same period last year," the Interfax-Kazakhstan news agency reported on 9 April.

Another report put out by the agency on the same day said that the transnational company Kazkhrom produced 259,600 t of ferroalloys in the first quarter of 2004, whereas in the first quarter of 2003 it produced 250,700 t.

Interfax-Kazakhstan also reported declining production figures at the Eurasian Energy Corporation.

"The Eurasian Energy Corporation in January-March 2004 produced 2,606.1m kWh of electric power, against 2,669.4m kWh in the same period last year," the agency said.

The corporation also produced 3,335,500 t of coal in the first quarter of this year, 3.2 per cent down on the same period last year, Interfax-Kazakhstan reported.
