A new policy brief by IDASA examines the challenges facing African oil-producing countries in translating oil wealth into poverty reduction and national development, along with the potential roles of civil society and government in tackling these challenges. Sudan, Oil, and Human Rights
US-based group Human Rights Watch accuses the Sudanese Government and big oil companies of a policy of division and displacement. The group has investigated the role of oil in Sudan's 20-year civil war. It says drilling for oil is linked to attacks on civilians by government forces and government-backed militias.
